Paula Kerger Kicks Off 50th Anniversary celebration during PBS’s 2020 Winter TCA Press Tour
On Friday, January 10, 2020, PBS presented at the Television Critics Association Press Tour in Pasadena, CA. Working with its producing partners, PBS presented 11 press conferences that reflect the wide array of programs that PBS has to offer and highlights the diversity, community impact, and relevance of PBS and its member stations.
The day began with remarks from Paula Kerger, President & CEO, who announced the organization’s 50th Anniversary celebration and mentioned the launch of PBS AMERICAN PORTRAIT, the signature programming initiative of our 50th anniversary.
To kick off the 50th celebrations, this week PBS launched a social media campaign— with #PBS50— featuring quotes from public television legends.
Throughout the TCA question and answer portion of the session, Kerger highlighted the recent PBS brand refresh.
And as we enter another year divisible by two, Kerger discussed PBS’s presidential election coverage. PBS will continue to focus on substance, helping viewers to better understand the candidates and the issues. As you know, last month the PBS Newshour hosted a democratic primary debate, and in the coming months, the news team will travel across the country to cover the campaign and hear directly from voters.
Kerger also highlighted upcoming programming highlighting trailblazing women such as GREAT PERFORMANCES “Gloria: A Life” and “Ann,” as well as “The Vote” by AMERICAN EXPERIENCE, “Toni Morrison: The Pieces I am” from AMERICAN MASTERS and POV’s “And She Could Be Next.”
