PBS continues program announcements at Virtual TCA Press Tour — Day 2
Suzanne Simpson, series executive producer, greeted TCA today to introduce new programming from MASTERPIECE, including the U.S. premiere of “Guilt” coming to PBS stations in September 2021.
In addition, MASTERPIECE provided critics with a sneak peek at season 2 of “All Creatures Great and Small” airing in the Winter 2022 season. Actors Nicholas Ralph (James Herriot), Anna Madeley (Mrs. Hall), Samuel West (Siegfried Farnon), Rachel Shenton (Helen Alderson), and Callum Woodhouse (Tristan Farnon) joined producer Colin Callender and writer and executive producer Ben Vanstone to discuss the series.
PBS KIDS followed MASTERPIECE with opening remarks from Linda Simensky, Head of Content for PBS KIDS. In her remarks, Simensky announced the return of “Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood” next fall and the new series “Alma’s Way,” coming October 4.
Created by actor and writer, Sonia Manzano, who positively impacted the lives of generations as “Maria” on SESAME STREET and produced by Fred Rogers Productions, the series stars 6-year-old Alma Rivera, a proud, confident Puerto Rican girl, who lives in the Bronx with her parents and younger brother, Junior, as well as a diverse group of close-knit and loving friends, family, and community members.
AMERICAN EXPERIENCE ‘s series executive producer Cameo George introduced “Citizen Hearst,” a new program on the life of publishing giant William Randolph Hearst.
Based on historian David Nasaw’s critically acclaimed biography, The Chief, and directed by Stephen Ives, the program premieres on Monday and Tuesday, September 27 and 28, 9:00–11:00 p.m. ET.
LA FRONTERA WITH PATI JINICH is a new special coming to PBS, October 15 & 22. Hosted by acclaimed chef and James Beard Award-winning Pati Jinich, the new program takes us to the fascinating, yet vastly misunderstood U.S.-Mexico border region, to experience and celebrate its rich, diverse, and unique culture through the noble and illuminating lens of food.
Next, award-winning journalist Yamiche Alicindor talked with critics about her new role as moderator for WASHINGTON WEEK.
Ken Burns, Rasheda Ali, actor and daughter of Muhammad Ali and Michael Bentt, actor and former WBO heavyweight champion closed out PBS’s second day at the Virtual TCA Press Tour, joining to discuss the new documentary series, MUHAMMAD ALI.
Produced by Ken Burns, Sarah Burns and David McMahon, the program follows the life of a man who captivated millions of fans throughout the world with his mesmerizing combination of speed, grace and power in the ring, and charm and playful boasting outside the ring.
MUHAMMAD ALI premieres September 19–22, 8:00–10:00 p.m. ET.
