Tulsa: The Fire and The Forgotten Comes to PBS this May
Examining the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre on the 100th anniversary of the crime, TULSA: THE FIRE AND THE FORGOTTEN is a new, moving documentary coming to PBS on May 31.
The film features interviews with descendants of victims of the Tulsa Massacre, exploring how their families’ devastating experiences still impact life in today’s America. Two featured descendants, Oklahoma State Rep. Regina Goodwin and Greg Robinson II, joined the press tour panel discussion to share the significance of this history today.
The press tour panel also featured WNET’s Lesley Norman (executive producer), DeNeen L. Brown (producer and journalist), Jonathan Silvers (producer and director) and Eric Stover (producer and human rights investigator; founder, Human Rights Center, U.C. Berkeley School of Law).
The group answered questions about the program’s documentation of white supremacy and racist violence, along with efforts to incorporate more Black history into public education. TULSA: THE FIRE AND THE FORGOTTEN also documents the current excavation of potential mass graves from the massacre and explores issues of atonement, reconciliation, and reparation in the past, present, and future.
